The Best (Free) Travel Apps You Need on Your Phone

Having good travel apps on your phone makes exploring the world way less stressful, and although some apps just add clutter to your phone, the ones on this list are incredibly helpful and highly-recommended.

Here are some of my favorite iPhone and Android apps.

Skyscanner

Skyscanner is all about cheap flights. It shows you the most affordable flights from over 1,200 different website all at once. The app lets you quickly compare and book from anywhere so that you can make sure you don't miss deals and offers as prices change quickly. But even better than the flight portion of the app is the other stuff. You can also search hotels and rental cars, making your trip plans seamless and easier to manage.

If you're someone that searches for trips based on inspiration, Skyscanner has a great "explore" option that lets you look around at a variety of destinations.

Currency Converter

Having a currency converter app is a must when you're visiting another country. They allow you to immediately convert dollars to local money in seconds to help you ensure you're not overpaying for food, souvenirs, tours and everything in between. There are quite a few currency converter apps on the market, but here are our three favs.

Google Translate

Language barriers can be an absolute headache. The Google Translate app is great because it works offline, which means you don't have to be connected to the internet in order for it to work. Though it is limited, it's still an option and includes over 50 different languages. To utilize all of the features, its best to have an internet connection.

AirBnB

By now, most people are familiar with AirBnB. But, not everyone has the app. Here's why it's a must. AirBnB has short and long-term accommodations in over 190 countries (that's nearly the whole world). It's super easy to scroll-through the options and book your stay. Plus, recently AirBnB added new features called "experiences" which offers activities all throughout the world including everything from cooking classes to guided tours.

Hopper

Hopper is a price-predictor that predicts prices up to a year in advance of travel time, which means that you can wait to book your flight when prices go down. What's great about this app is that it's generally about 95% accurate.

Rome2Rio

Rome2Rio is all getting around. With this app you can enter any address, city, or landmark and it will instantly give you different options on getting there — this includes by plane, train, bus, ferry and car.

TripAdvisor

Get hundreds (sometimes thousands) of reviews at your fingertips. Once you have the app downloaded, all you have to do is create an account and start searching hotels, restaurants, tours and local attractions and get real accounts of the others' experiences. When you find something you love, "heart it" so that you can quickly go back and find it.

Well, now it's time to get to downloading. Happy travel planning!
